Conventions Bi-weekly Call: Feb 15: LinkML, Murmurations, Attributes oh my

Here’s notes from the call:

Notes, Meeting Feb 15

Octavio - updates on the JSON Schema Publisher

  • Looking into LinkML, which has a separate independent language that can output to many frameworks

  • Concerns

    • How ‘lossy’ is LinkML’s common format. Like can it use advanced features from JSON Schema? Or are those lost?
    • Is LinkML something we want to invest in? Is it going to be around? Who owns it and where will it be?
    • It’s coded in Python, so now we’ve added another language into the mix of how one can do the work of creating new convention.
    • Will it be easy still to integrate wtih FarmOS? Using FarmOS as part of the testing pipeline still be available?
  • Pluses

    • Output to many formats that other groups can use - like RDF, etc. etc.
    • Already has a system to integrate context (like RDF)
  • Questions

    • Go to community meeting
    • Ask on the JSON Schema forum if anyone’s using and what they think
    • Octavio will initiate a post on LinkML to start long-term review… maybe we can use it, let’s see if we can get folks to starting learning more.
  • other things to check out

    • murmurations.network
    • linkml

Greg presented on language for how and when for people creating a new convention to add attributes and when not to. Hopes to post here soon when done.
