Farmers and advisors: how do you record what happens in the field? (especially in Europe)

Hi everyone!

I’m Cristina, based in Barcelona and Drupal UX Manager. Together with @mstenta, @gbathree and @pcambra, we are looking for funding to work on the next steps for quick capture in farmOS: get raw files from the field into farmOS first (photos, voice notes, map files, other files) and turn them into logs and assets later.

For context: Voice-based record keeping strategies

Who we’d love to hear from

If you:

  • farm and record (or try to record) what happens in the field
  • advise farmers or enter data on their behalf (farm advisors, extension services, cooperatives, machinery rings, researchers)
  • build tools around farmOS

Everyone is welcome, and we’d especially love to hear from people in Europe, where we have less information about how farmOS and similar tools are used.

What’s next

We’d like to run short online interviews (around 30 minutes) and test early versions with a few people to figure out how do you record field activity today: paper, spreadsheets, phone notes, photos, voice messages… Where do those notes and files end up? Or what makes it hard to get them into farmOS or any other system?

Thank you!
