Integration with local food map

Hello

I operate Piknik.Spot - a local food map connecting farms, shops, markets, and restaurants to the people who live nearby.

I just found your software and wondered what an integration might look like between us. One possibility is for farmers to advertise their food on the piknik map and engage in the market.

I’m open to discussing other options. Nice work on your software.

Best,

Welcome to the farmOS forum @PiknikSpot!

One idea might be to provide a PiknikSpot module for farmOS that provides the integration that you’re talking about. Then farmOS site administrators could opt into installing your module to connect their farm.

Thanks for the suggestion! I’ve submitted a draft pull request with my first attempt. I have a couple more things to polish but I wanted to share early to get your feedback.

Farms can connect to an existing Piknik listing and 1) monitor the marketplace within farmOS for requests matching what they’ve harvested or 2) create marketplace listings manually or automatically when they harvest.

@PiknikSpot Nice!

I should have clarified the difference between “Community / Contrib modules” and “farmOS core modules”. I see you opened a PR in the farmOS core project. My suggestion was to create a separate project, which farmOS users could choose to download and install.

For example, the “farmOS Ledger” module is a “contrib” project that is not included with farmOS, but can be installed as an “add-on”.

The benefit of this approach is that you can maintain your integration module yourself, so we (the core maintainers) don’t need to. This also means you don’t need to wait for us for reviews/changes to be merged. You are in control of (and responsible for) your own code. :slight_smile:

I’ll comment similarly on the pull request, and we’ll close it as “won’t fix”.

Your project can either live on GitHub or Drupal.org - there are examples of both out there.

Also, once you have it published, feel free to open a PR to add it to our new Delightful farmOS list! GitHub - farmOS/delightful-farmOS: A curated list of delightful farmOS-related projects and resources. · GitHub

I’ve published an initial version as a community module on Drupal: farm_piknik

Here’s a short intro video for the integration: https://youtu.be/rbuiXX3y3qI
