Moving a Taxonomy node to another place in the hierarchy

Hi,

How can I move a Taxonomy Term to another place in the hierarchy? I recently had a situation in which I decided that a top level Term should, after all, be a child of another Term. I had to delete it and recreate it in the desired location. This was ok because I was still not used by any Asset. But, if it was already used, would it be stuck there forever?

Thanks.

Taxonomy term hierarchy is defined by the Parent field on each term, which allows the term to reference a parent term.

There are two ways in the UI to modify the parent term:

  1. If you edit a single term, you can set the parent in the “Relations” field in the sidebar on the right.
  2. If you are looking at the list of all terms in a taxonomy, there is a move icon to the right of each, which allows you to click and drag them up/down and left/right to create a hierarchy (remember to Save at the bottom).

Hope that helps!

Thank you Mike,

I had no idea about your point 1 so, good to know. Thank you!
But point 2 should’ve been clear to me since it’s quite obvious. But somehow it wasn’t. My bad. Sorry for wasting your time.

Cheers.

All good! If this helps someone searching for answers in the future, then it is worth it.
