Webinar: FarmOS for Organizations

Cross-posting from GOAT also.

Hi all, wanted to share an upcoming webinar we’re putting on. The content emerged from the work we (Our Sci) did through an NAPDC grant to do a gap analysis comparing use of closed and open source software among ag-related organizations. In short - why is there so little uptake of open source tools? A tool with strong potential was FarmOS, but a gap for these organizations in using it was the need/desire to have many farms in a single instance (example groups are doing benchmarking, research, conservation planning, and related activities). So working with @mstenta and Pedro and Miriam at Cambria, we supported some additional features to move closer to a “FarmOS for Organizations” structure. We also worked on simplifying ingesting historical data to get folks up and running faster, and simplify ongoing data intake.

Here’s the blurb (you can share on socials) and link. Hope to see some of you there!

FarmOS got some new features special for Organizations! Come learn more your organization could use FarmOS to simplify your farm data collection, management, and quality control across many farms. Great for farmer networks, conservation planners, benchmarking, research studies, supply chain data collection, ag industry groups, and more! Weds July 30 11:30 EST, register here: Using Open-Source Tools to Simplify Management of Farm Data · Zoom · Luma

Also for the farmOS dev community here, I’m curious what your opinions are about this type of application, and potential overlaps (or conflicts) between this and the base farmOS for a single farm. What should we be thinking about? What should we focus more on that benefits the core FarmOS community? Obviously there’s already a lot of shared conversation, but never hurts to prompt.

Looking forward to this - thanks for posting @gbathree!

The recording would be great to post to the community blog afterwards too. Will it be posted to YouTube?
