Wireless soil sensors data

Good evening.

I am looking at using wireless soil sensors to get data into farmOS.

What readings can I store in farmOS?

I need soil moisture, pH, light and nitrogen readings to make decisions about my plants.

Hi @mwlewis91 - farmOS is pretty flexible when it comes to storing data from sensors.

You start by installing the Sensor Asset module, which allows you create assets to represent your sensors. These are treated the same as other asset types (eg: equipment), so they can be moved around, have logs associated with them, etc.

What’s unique about sensor assets is that you can create one or more “data streams” associated with the sensor. Each data stream represents a single type of sensor reading (eg: temperature, humidity, etc).

Then, you can send data to farmOS via HTTP requests and it will be stored in the database associated with the appropriate data stream, and you can view the data in the UI (or via API). It isn’t currently possible to view a graph of the data (see: Client Challenge), but you can see the raw values and load them into some other software to graph them if you want.

Hope that gets you started! If you play around with creating sensor assets and data streams you’ll see that there is documentation in the farmOS UI itself with the specific HTTP endpoints to post data too, as well as example curl commands.

Thank you for your reply.

I am writing a report for an organization that I belong to STARFLEET (SFI.org).

May I have your permission to share your name and this farmOS link https://farmos.discourse.group/ ?
