I have a 4.x install using docker compose but cant find where the bed generator for an area as I have seen in youtube videos.
is it in this version? what are the plans for v4 release?
As I am just trying to find my way around the software before we start our community market garden in the autumn, I cant find much help on how to use FarmOS particularly Plant Family / Crop / Variety usage
The “bed generator” was a feature in farmOS v1, but was not ported to v2. Instead, you might be interested in @Symbioquine’s Land Drawing Tool. See this forum post: Bed Generator in v2?
Great! If you’re interested in joining one of our monthly calls (or weekly dev calls) I’d be happy to help brainstorm with you!
The “Crop / variety” vocabulary is the main one… this is referenced on Plant assets to indicate what type of plant it is, for easier filtering/searching.
The “Crop family” vocabulary is intended to be used for botanical families like “Brassica”, which you can then reference from “Broccoli”, “Cabbage”, “Kale” etc terms in the “Crop / variety” vocabulary. This is optional, though. It was originally added as a step towards facilitating rotations (to ensure that you use crops from different families), but no features have been built yet to leverage it.
FYI farmOS v4 is does not have a “stable” release yet, and is still very much in development. I would not recommend using it until 4.0.0 is released. Things may break before then.
I would recommend using the current “stable” release which is 3.4.5.
Many thanks for the prompt reply, your software looks promising and will persevere with learning the connections. I will look at joining your community meetings after I have explored some more, thanks for the invite.
First comment: Youtube is missing some recent and quality videos explaining farmOS.
I will try the land drawing tool you mentioned, that video in the OP looks great.
I had come to that conclusion and look forward to exploring farmOS
I had entered brassica and then cabbage but had questioned if it was correct. Just trying to learn the terminology
Author of the land drawing tool here - watching this thread, let me know if you run into any issues…
As you probably picked up from the video, there’s definitely some room to improve the user interface of the bed generator functionality - I’m thinking that it should probably automatically zoom in/out with the area of the beds and also maybe make it a bit easier to interact with the input boxes. That said, most folks probably only need a bed generator every once in a while so it’s unclear how much investment is worthwhile.
Not yet installed as I am trying to get to grips with what I can do with farmOS and fix my computer problems.
I am not familiar with Drupal, but have written code for a WordPress site. I am looking forward to exploring those extra modules when I know where to put them.
