FarmOS dark theme

Hello all,

it’s just an idea and I hope this topic is a good way to put it forward. I am getting accustomed to programs and websites in ‘dark mode’. Only a change in color of the GUI like white-grey text on black background. Pleasant for the eyes and the screen uses less energy. As I often have FarmOS fullscreen to work through lists, would be cool if there is that option.

Greetings,
Karel

I suspect any Drupal 7 dark theme would be a good start - and might even solve the problem without any development effort.

You should be able to find plenty of documentation/tutorials on how to download/install themes in Drupal. e.g. https://www.inmotionhosting.com/support/edu/wordpress/installing-a-theme-in-drupal/

Ha! I was just talking with @paul121 about this. It’s something I’ve wanted for a while myself.

The easiest way to do this might actually be to just toggle a different Bootstrap Swatch theme. Currently farmOS uses the “Simplex” theme. Perhaps we could add a farmOS Dark Mode toggle that switches to use the “Darkly” theme.

If you are self-hosting, you can experiment with this yourself in the “Admin > Appearance” Drupal settings. Ultimately, for it to be an official feature of farmOS we would need to add some kind of setting that toggles that automatically. If anyone wants to give this a try feel free to open a feature request! https://github.com/farmOS/farmOS/issues
